Best Places to Visit in North Italy

Updated: Aug 17, 2018

Two weeks ago my family and i flew to one of my favorite countries in the world- Italy.

Actually, we have been there before, 4 years ago, but this time we decided to travel to a different area in Italy, so we chose the North.

The mainly thing you can do in North Italy is travelling by some of the lakes.

There are many beautiful lakes and mountains in Italy, which I really liked to see.

One of them is Lake Tenno, which is the most limpid and clear freshwater lake in Italy.

There are no buildings at the lakeshore and the lake can not be reached by car, but by mediaeval stairs. Moreover the lake is surrounded by a dense forest, which together with the white stones on the bottom, confer a tropical touch to lake Tenno.

I recommend you to buy a pizza before going to Lake Tenno, so you will be able to eat an Italian lunch in front of the lake.

Lake Ledro is also an option for you. On the shore of the lake there is a museum that reconstructs the residence of ancient man. In this place remains of an ancient village were discovered, and in the museum straw huts were built on pillars inside the lake.

The next lake is Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, which is a hugely popular destination for both locals and tourists. The landscapes and scenery surrounding Lake Garda are breathtaking – the combination of forest covered mountains and small terracotta roofed villages create an idyllic setting.

Towns such as Sirmione and Bardolino provide perfect venues to explore the lake from and offer a variety of sites and high quality restaurants.

I went to Sirmione, and visited Scaligero Castle, which is beautiful.

Moreover, in the central regions of Northern Italy there are several magnificent and immense cities such as Milan and Turin, that have a myriad of interesting sites and attractions.

In this trip, my family and I went to Milan, the city of fashion.

I had a great time walking down the streets and admiring the architecture there.

We visited Milan Cathedral and ate a good Italian ice cream.

Another known city in Italy is Venice, which is dubbed as one of the most romantic cities in the world. As you are there, you are able to walk through its many narrow cobbled streets and canals. Furthermore, a gondola cruise is absolutely a must in Venice.

Fun fact: Loacker is an Italian company, so Italy is full of Loacker stores where you are able to drink milkshakes and eat a delicious piece of cake. You can also buy yourself Loacker chocolates, of course.

The place which impressed me the most was The Dolomites, a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. The view there is definitely breathtaking and looks like a postcard.

The last day of the trip was spent in Gardaland theme park and was very charming.

If you like theme parks and roller coasters, I recommend you to visit this park, which is located near Lake Garda (5-10 minutes by car).
